In a bid to try and help more Swansea students find love this Valentine’s, we decided to matchmake two blind dates for you this issue.
Sam (24), a PhD Economics student and Matt (22), a fourth year American Studies student, met for a free drink in JCs. Here’s what they had to say afterwards.
Why did you agree to go on a blind date?
S: Me and my flatmate have agreed to try to do something that we have never done before every month, for the next 12 months. I had never been on a blind date, and hadn’t done “something new” this month.
M: Because drunk me thought sober me needed to get out more.
Were you attracted to the person?
S: Sadly not. Although he did seem like a nice guy.
M: He wasn’t really my type.
Did you get drunk? And if not, do you wish that you did?
S: I didn’t.
M: By drink 2 I was pretty tipsy, so embarrassing.
How long did the date last? Did you want it to last longer or end sooner?
S: About an hour, which was fine.
M: Like an hour.
What did you think of their choice of drink?
S: Cider, you can’t go wrong with cider, right?
M: I can’t remember, so it must have been underwhelming.
Did you kiss? Or was there any potential for a kiss…or more?
S: No, no, and definitely not.
M: No way Jose.
Out of ten, how would you rate the date?
S: 4
M: 6.5
Any chance of seeing each other again?
S: Maybe as friends.
M: Who knows where life will lead us.
Heather (21), a fourth year American Studies student and Laura (19), a first year Ancient History and Egyptology student, met for a free drink in JCs. Here’s what they had to say afterwards.
Why did you agree to go on a blind date?
H: Never been on one before so thought why not give it a go!
L: Thought it would be fun and a good way to meet new people.
What were your first impressions?
H: I liked her style.
L: She was funny and cute.
How long did the date last? Did you want it to last longer or end sooner?
H: It was about 1.5hours because I had somewhere to be but I think we could have chatted for longer.
L: About 2 hours, it was about the right amount of time.
Funniest moment?
H: The fact that we spent 10 minutes trying to find each other and freaking that the other hadn’t turned up.
L: Both realising we loved Alex Kingston at the exact same time or when I threatened to walk because she liked peanut M&Ms.
What was your favourite thing about the person?
H: She’s really bubbly and pretty easy going.
L: Her sense of humour.
Were there any turnoffs?
H: Nothing major but she likes cats.
L: She liked peanut M&Ms.
Out of ten, how would you rate the date?
H: 8/10
L: Probably an 8 or 9.
Any chance of seeing each other again?
H: We exchanged numbers, so I think so yeah.
L: Hope so, we exchanged numbers.
We send our blind date couples to JC’s bar and coffee shop, which serves a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, speciality coffees, pub meals, panini and homemade cakes.
